Bus drivers and the BBC!

We’re excited to share that our Founder, Helen, has been on BBC Oxford's Breakfast Club talking with Sophie Law about a topic we're very passionate about: Women at Work!

The topic was kicked off by hearing about trailblazing female bus driver Mary Curry who's celebrating a blue plaque as one of our first female bus drivers 50 years ago.

And still just one in ten bus drivers are women - though various bus companies are trying to change that.

As we continue to see progress in other sectors (there has been significant improvement in fields of Law, Finance and Medicine for example) there’s still so much more to be done in encouraging women to explore and lead in a wide range of sectors - in particular in Tech and Engineering (where just a quarter of those working in these areas are women, and just 5% of those in leadership positions).

It's crucial we create more pathways, mentorship opportunities, and a culture that supports women in every industry.

Of course Helen flagged the importance of shared parental leave and how flexible working can be a real boost in breaking down some of these barriers.

Let’s all keep pushing for change, inspiring women to step boldly into all sectors, and building a more inclusive future together.

You can have a listen on the iPlayer (Helen was on at around 7.50am on 7th October 2024).
