Have You Ever Felt Like You’ve Lost Yourself?

Have you ever found yourself questioning who you are beyond the labels—mother, partner, employee? Have you ever had a moment where you realised that somewhere along the way, you stopped recognising yourself? Life can pull us in so many directions, and in the process, we can lose sight of the person we once were. I know that feeling well. And it’s exactly why I wrote Rise. Reclaim. Roar!, a journal designed to help women reconnect with themselves, rebuild their confidence, and rediscover their sense of purpose.

The Turning Point

In January 2023, I received the heartbreaking news that a boy I had a serious crush on as a teenager had taken his own life. He was someone I had admired from a distance—popular, surrounded by people, seemingly full of life. Yet, behind closed doors, he had been struggling. At the time, I was already wrestling with my own questions about purpose and direction. I had spent the past seven years running a clay keepsake business that had provided stability and flexibility through two pregnancies, but something in me felt restless. After an encounter with an acquaintance in the summer of 2022 that left me feeling more isolated than ever, I knew I needed something more. I wanted to do work that mattered, something that truly made a difference. Hearing the news of my friend’s passing sent me into a spiral of grief and reflection. When I surfaced from it, I knew I had to create something that could help others who might feel lost, alone, or unsure of their place in the world.

  1. Reflect on Your Identity Beyond Labels
    Take a step back and ask yourself, "Who am I beyond my roles as a mother, partner, or employee?" Understanding your true self can help you reconnect with your core values and passions.

  2. Use Journaling to Rediscover Yourself
    Journaling isn’t just about writing; it’s about understanding where you are and where you want to go. Use it as a tool for reflection and self-discovery, focusing on mindset exercises that lead to real transformation.

  3. Identify What's Holding You Back
    Recognise the barriers that make you feel stuck. What’s preventing you from moving forward? Being aware of these obstacles is the first step in reclaiming your confidence and purpose.

  4. Practice Gratitude and Recognise Small Wins
    Shift your focus to what’s working. Every day, reflect on where you put in effort, where you saw success, and where you made progress—no matter how small. This will help build a resilient, confident mindset.

  5. Find Your Core Values
    Take the time to identify what truly matters to you. Understanding your values helps you make decisions with confidence and sets clear boundaries, allowing you to live with intention rather than reacting to life’s circumstances.

  6. Use the Wheel of Life
    Track your personal growth over time with the "Wheel of Life." This simple tool helps you visualize progress in different areas of your life and empowers you to take actionable steps toward change.

  7. Make Self-Belief a Daily Practice
    Confidence isn't something you're born with; it's built daily. Practice self-belief by focusing on effort, progress, and success in every aspect of your life.

  8. Embrace Change and Transformation
    Acknowledge that change can be challenging, but it’s also where growth happens. Don’t be afraid to face your fears and evolve. The journey of self-reclamation might start with discomfort, but it leads to empowerment.

  9. Create Meaningful Work and Purpose
    If you’re feeling unfulfilled, it might be time to find work that aligns with your deeper values. Seek out endeavors that bring real meaning to your life and contribute to others' well-being.
